When You Don't Know

We talked about being fresh to make gains in your practice, but did you know several successful athletes, musicians, etc. practice right after a performance?

What? 🤯

Why would you do that? I know I don't exactly feel "fresh" after completing a painting. But there is actually some logic behind it.

When you have just done something, that's when the mistakes are fresh. You can replay them mentally and correct them in your practice RIGHT THEN! It helps pave the right mental road map for improving, but that begs the question...what if you don't know your mistakes?

BINGO!

This is where Beyond the Brushes comes in. Rather than rushing through paintings, checking the boxes, and getting a gold star on something you haven't mastered, we slow down, review, and critique. We aren't ripping artists' paintings to shreds. Instead, we are showing them through video reviews where their painting can improve.

Now, with the critique fresh and the path to correcting the mistakes clear, we encourage artists to revisit their painting, deliberately practice and work on the areas highlighted, and improve their skills. Better yet? Students can get another critique on the updated painting!
