Talk Positive

This may not come as a shock to you, but one way to grow artistically is to focus on the positive. If you focus on what you want rather than on what you're trying to avoid, you actually will make it further in your deliberate practice, and how do we do this?
Well, one excellent way is in our self talk. When you get into the studio, are you thinking "I'm going to conquer puppet warp today," or are you telling yourself "Let's not mess up the puppet warp today like we did yesterday?" Though they are similar the underlying tone are completely different.
Don't get me wrong. It is good to take note and correct mistakes, but when the focus is only on the mistakes as soon as you enter the studio, you are starting off defeated. Frame your self-talk after what you'd say encouraging a friend rather than what you want to say to yourself. That usually turns out WAY better than what our minds come up with to say to ourselves.
Set the stage and the tone for your day in the studio. Know what your goal is, talk positive, and get ready to learn and grow.
