Sometimes, you just have to paint it. The photo catches your eye, brings back a memory, or the image in your mind is far too enticing to pass up on.

That's right. I said it, and I'm not taking it back.
Yes, I have been there throwing out painting after painting because it wasn't "as good as" or "better than" the last. But who is to say it wasn't? Me? Because I for sure didn't let anyone else give their opinion on it.
This is a pitfall that many artists dive into without even knowing it until they are in a pile of trashed paintings.
Not everything you paint has to be worthy of display, worthy of that gold star. It's just as impressive to win a silver or bronze star in sports, so why aren't we giving ourselves the same leeway? Maybe it's because we don't have an audience. 🫢
Well, keep this in mind.
You need to make an audience for yourself before getting into throwing things away. Some days, it's a gold, silver, or bronze painting. Other days, participation was all that was needed.
Whether you're having a medal day or a participation day, don't worry about your perception of the quality of the final product. Paint the painting. It'll all work out in the wash.
